The Pride of Wales
Capital of Wales, Cardiff is a wonderfully green city steeped in national pride. At its heart is enormous Bute Park, divided by the River Taff and named after the marquis that once lived in Cardiff Castle overlooking it. In fact, this is just one of 5 castles within the surrounding area.
Over the road is Cathays Park, a beautiful square flanked by Edwardian architectural masterpieces including Cardiff City Hall and the excellent National Museum of Wales. Another must-see is St Fagan’s National History Museum, one of Britain’s top attractions.
From Victorian arcades to the fabulous St David’s Centre, shopping in Cardiff is a delight. And there’s no shortage of pubs and restaurants in which to rest awhile. Those by Cardiff Bay offer particularly pleasant views.
Also by the bay are the futuristic National Assembly for Wales and the Wales Millennium Centre. Another year 2000 landmark is the Millennium Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue for international rugby and football matches, as well as concerts. Next door is Cardiff Arms Park, home to the city’s rugby union team, while Cardiff City FC’s new stadium is in the west.
Cardiff Airport is further west near Barry and Booking.com have an excellent range of hotels, B&Bs and apartments both near there and in the city centre.

We didnt really explore much of Cardiff as came for the Strongman event and only went out for dinner , hower TY Madeira was amazing food. Our apartment was 15 mins walk to the centre which was a pleasant stroll. The city centre is party central on a saturday night just incase you want somewhere less noisy and busy.

I had an evening tour of the City by my friend who is a local. We had a very pleasant meal in the Bay area at the Goggling Squid. Lots of different restaurants round there to suit every taste and budget. I never realised how magnificent Cardiff is. A Castle bang in the middle, lots of fantastic civic buildings and architecture, loads of history. It's a totally walkable city, and very easy to get around. Not a huge amount of things to see: the Castle, the Cardiff Museum (Natural History on the GF and art gallery on the 1F, including a room with stunning painting by Van Gogh, Monet, Sisley, Degas and other Impressionists), St John the Baptist's cathedral and Cardiff Bay. A weekend is just right!

Castle was really good to visit, worth paying the bit extra for the tour guide. Book in advance if wanting to eat out as most near property do not let you book on the day. River taxi out to bay worth doing, lots of lovely places o eat there if you wish. Lots of gardens and castles to visit within 10 to 15 miles of city centre.

The owners of the Hotel were so nice to not charge any cancellation fees that's why I decided to book again. This time I could come as my course was rescheduled. A very nice and warm welcome by staff on arrival. The Hotel is slightly outdated but unique in its way and has its own charm. Nice and clean room with a very comfy bed. Well located right in the city centre of Cardiff.
