Quiet, remote location perfect to relax. Great food, beer, service and friendly owner and staff. Booked a superior double garden room which had private outdoor seating, didn’t use it this time but intend to return. Stayed for 3 course evening meal and breakfast all of which great quality.

We stayed in Thornton Le Dale a couple of miles outside.
We stayed in Thornton Le Dale a couple of miles outside. This location is ideal in that it is within easy reach of most local attractions and also the coast. Plenty of pubs, cafes and independent shops.

Nice little market town with plenty of places to eat in the evenings, even in the winter. It is a good centre for visiting other places nearby and it has the main attraction of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Clean tidy and relaxing.
Clean tidy and relaxing. The birds at the pond were lovely to see. Even saw a kingfisher. Hot tub was very nice and they even turned up the temperature to meet our preference. The hot tub was checked and attended to promptly ever day of our stay. I know Pickering very well as my daughters lives there. We used the site as a place to relax and be with my family after loosing my brother few weeks before. My husband had also retired that weekend so we wanted to be close to our family. All our needs were met but could have done with few more cooking dishes and trays as we did not want to go out to eat. Would recommend the site to others.

Such a beautiful part of the country.
Such a beautiful part of the country. The town itself is great just to have a good walk around. But you are close to other locations eg. Whitby. To really enjoy in my opinion one of the best locations in England. Excellent for walkers, photography ect

Beautiful town. The NYR is a real tourist attraction.
Beautiful town. The NYR is a real tourist attraction. The stops are interesting and mostly independent! Parking is plentiful! Pickering is a fabulous base to explore the moors! Just 20 minutes to Whitby, 20 miles to York. Plenty of places to eat, lovely cafes and pubs! Don’t forget to visit the Castle. Scarborough is a 30 minute drive. People in the town are very friendly and the shops are very welcoming of dogs. Pickering is a real gem of a town! Flamingo Land theme park is about 10 mins from Pickering.

The purpose of our visit was to visit the Bangers and Cash Auction House, and to visit there memorable museum in Thornton le Dale. Pickering was a nice place. We went out of season so it was quiet and only went for two days. Ate at a Indian restaurant which was recommended to us.
Evening meals superb, great choice and quality, quantity and well presented. Good value for money. Would highly recommend eating in . Staff were very helpful, friendly and clearly interested in their guests and attentive to their customers. Great rural location but close to Pickering too. Loads of parking at hotel. Well managed grounds with nice outdoor seating ares to take in the views. Bed was very comfy and good water pressure showers and baths. Well appointed small bar with reasonable prices for drinks.
Really liked the place. All communication before hand was spot on . Accurate and very helpful. Once we arrived we moved straight in, the lodge was very comfortable and cosy. All the basics were there cooking facilities, cutlery, plates etc, iron and board etc etc. On the Saturday we walked into Pickering, there is a footpath all the way from Wrelton into Pickering, but a handy bus service also in and out of town. On our return we had our, excellent, evening meal in the local village pub.
It's a really cosy, warm cottage with everything you could possibly need - including the comfiest beds ever. Pickering is great. It's a pretty little town with cute shops, a castle, and a steam train. It's perfect for mooching around, and as a base to explore the glorious North York Moors and the coast around Whitby and Scarborough.
The host is absolutely lovely, and puts his heart and soul (and back!) into everything. (Thanks, Matt!).
We loved being able to use the fireplace. We were in The Tack Room and it's a very well laid out cottage. It's comfortable, homely and cosy; perfect for a couple to stay in.
It's walking distance to everything in Pickering and it's a relatively short drive to York, Whitby and other coastal towns. You can also get to Dalby Forest and other lovely places pretty easily for a nice walk which we liked.
the breakfast was ok although on one of them the sausage was on the turn, i was disappointed as i thought we were in walking distance to pickering, but it was 10 miles away and being that the kitchen was not open for evening meals, and the nearest restaurants were fully booked, it spoilt the break
We very much enjoyed our stay and all the individual attention that comes with staying at a family hotel business. Rooms have been nicely remodeled, are super clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was also very nice. Definitely good value and great find in Pickering.
We went for one night and stayed for 2, everything about this hotel is perfect, spacious rooms, comfy beds, roaring fires, great food and friendly and informative staff. The location is excellent for exploring the NYM, we can’t wait to visit again
This lovely hotel is perfect. Extremely comfortable and perfectly clean. The staff were all very friendly and polite. It’s in a great location just across the road from Pickering main street
And perfectly located for the steam train station.
Lovely looking property, good parking facilities. Excellent position to explore the town and North Yorkshire Moors Railway. I missed the car park and ended up miles away could do with a large sign in the car park stating the hotel name.
Great location near the centre of Pickering yet with a big, peaceful, and well- maintained garden to look out on. Good spacious rooms and layout suited our needs perfectly, especially the big round dining table adjacent to the kitchen.
The Black Swan Hotel is located in a beautiful picturesque village, and an ideal location. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely room and a very comfy bed. I would highly recommend a visit.
Location in Pickering was great. Nicely maintained property; decently sized rooms and bathrooms. Food was great and really reasonably priced. Owners were helpful and flexible.
Very friendly welcome from Val & her team.
The breakfast was outstanding with locally sourced food.
Superb location, less than 5 minutes walk into the centre of Pickering.
2 en suite bedrooms, well appointed kitchen. Off road parking behind property. Location, 2-3 mins from Pickering High St and 5 mins from the Ryedale Swimming pool.
