This is an excellent little boutique hotell with a nice position in the end at Matemwe beach. It has a good size pool close to the beach. A neat restaurant and a cozy lounge section. The hotell is the perfect size, not to big nor to small. The rooms are very big and tidy and the overall atmosphere is fantastic. But what really stands out is the management and staff. Super friendly and helpful in a most genuine way.

Wonderful location just next to beach. Nice swimming pool and hammocks in a shaded area. Clean, spacious rooms with good air conditioning, mosquito nets and staff who treated the room to get rid of insects. Me and my husband have been traveling a lot, but we are blowed away from this amazing place. Wow what a hotel and staff! From day one, they took care of us in a way that made us feel welcomed, relaxed and comfortable. This is so important for us, so staying here for 10 days was easy and a wonderful stay. Thankyou so much to everyone who made our days our best. A special thanks to Leigh and her staff in the reception, the restaurant (wonderful young people allways smiling) and a BIG bow for the chef. The food here is beyond expectations. Everything is fresh, delightful and tastes wonderful. We had the all inclusive and it was worth every penny. Again, thankyou to all of you, for making our stay so amazing. We will definitely come back!

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. We absolutely loved every part of our stay. We had the feeling that all employees are happy and satisfied, which made our stay especially enjoyable. The location was great and we loved our morning and evening walks on the beach. The food was the best we had during our entire Tanzania trip. Huge compliment to the chef, he's really talented. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Loved the little book corner with the games and the afternoon cake and coffee! The owners are very friendly and welcoming and often came by for a chat. Thank you for this beautiful memory!

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

Matemwe and its area is a quiet place where you can relax and enjoy the beach, the activities (snorkeling, swimming with dolphins) especially if you are a couple, because the village is not very full of enterteinments or night parties.

Crystal clear water - despite there being sea urchins - if you have rock/ aqua shoes - you can still swim and explore the waters and reefs. The beaches are a lot quieter and peaceful than the busier beaches up north. The tides are also fascinating to watch- you can walk out to the reefs and cycle along the beaches when they go out!

Marafiki gets a 10/10 from us on all fronts - breakfast, lunch, dinner, pool, cleanliness, hospitality, music, sustainability, beach, communication. My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Marafiki after our Safari and had the most fabulous time. The rooms were very clean and quiet, and beautifully set up. The food is exceptional - please try the tuna tartar and all the specials! We had a relaxing time at the spa - you must try the full body scrub and massages. We used the free kayaks during sunset and enjoyed the stunning view from the water. The water is shallow so even if you go far, you can get off the kayak and swim. Since the hotel is east facing - sunrise is exceptionally beautiful. The water is still and shallow, and you can see all the fisherman walk up to the reef to catch the fish. The hotel also arranged a cooking lesson in Matamwe village for us - we learned how to cook ‘muchuzi’ from scratch which was a very meaningful experience. Overall- no negatives. We had the best time and will be back!

The beach is beautiful, but it's not really a beach you can swim on - there's a big tidal range - when it comes in it's quite choppy with lots of seaweed, and when it's out its corally with lots of urchins. But it's interesting to watch the local people looking for octopus and shellfish every day. It's quite a quiet area - all the bars are part of hotels. A few nice local restaurants around. Quite a lot of beach touts, which we found off putting. Not loads of activities to do in the area - 1/2 day snorkelling/dolphin watching trips at Mnemba Island basically.

The village is located in Matemwe, front of the beach. Sunset is magic if you achieve to wake up early. Bungalows are very comfy with lot of privacy. Personnal are nice and respectful to your space but if needed, they are always supporting what you need. For those who would like a beer, note that the Village is not providing alcohol. However, you could find affordable local beers near to the hotel. Food is fresh and tasty, breakfast as well. I recommend 100% for couple, group of friends or families.

We stayed at Zanzibar House for 4 nights during our vacation in Zanzibar. The intimate 7 bedroom hotel has a beautiful location and the beach is private and secluded. The rooms are very comfortable, well-appointed, and have gorgeous views of the sea from large, wooden balconies. The local staff are friendly, hospitable, and go out of their way to meet your every need if they are able to. The in-house massage therapist is incredible and the pool was lovely.

Matemwe is very quiet in a natural surroundings. The food was very very good in the restaurant with a beautiful view in front of the beach. In the morning during low tide it's worth it to take some shoes and walk with local people in the sea to see some starfishes (do not touch them or take them outside the water, it can kill them). The staff in the hotel and restaurant was kind, smiling and very helpful. We had a wonderful time.

It was not the first time in Zanzibar and in this lovely hotel, and it always turns out to be the best choice from many perspectives. I should stay in another hotel for a couple of days (Sunbay was fully booked, which I can totally understand :)), but after 2 days they called me that if I prefer to go back, there is a room for me. I absolutely agreed to come back, it was also a nice experience. Thank you!

Matemwe beach is one of the top beaches in Zanzibar, white sand and a lot of colored little boats on the shoreline. The place is quiet and relaxing, the bar/restaurant sourronded by beautiful plants and trees. This sounds authentical african. Two steps from the restaurant and you are on the beach.
